  • Given how little the country spends on health and education as a share of GDP, the improvements seem remarkable.
  • The Constitution’s endurance is rooted in our ability and commitment to the project of expanding freedom.
  • Soft power of the cultural kind is for coffee-room discussions. Across the working table, real power along with financial and political support matter more.

  • The government’s retreat on farm laws cannot be seen in isolation from the farmers’ commitment to democracy.
  • The appropriateness of the criterion that pegs the ratio of public health expenditure to the gross domestic product which is volatile needs a re-examination. The targets for allocation and expenditure of financial resources for health need to be based on indicators that can be monitored.

50- WORD TALK

  • Alarm over the new coronavirus variant in South Africa, Europe’s surging infections and 182 students testing positive in a Karnataka medical college shows Covid isn’t history. This should jolt Indians to take their second vaccine dose and non-pharmacological interventions like masking should remain in focus. India doesn’t need another wave.
