Unemployment-related terminologies

1. Working-age Population: Population between 15-59 years of age

2. Labour Force: Those working-age population which are either engaged in work or are willing to work but are not employed.

3. Work Force: Those proportion of Labour Force which is employed (excludes those which are unemployed)

4. Unemployed People: Difference between Labour Force and Work Force (Labour Force – Work Force).

5. Not part of Labour Force: Those part of working-age population which have moved out of labour force in the sense that they are unemployed as well as are not interested in looking for work (Working-age Population – Labour Force) 

Measurement of Unemployment Levels (Metrics)

    • Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR): Labour Force/ Working-age population
    • Workforce Participation Rate (WFPR): Workforce/ Working-age Population
    • Worker Population Ratio (WPR): Workforce/ Total Population
    • Unemployment Rate (UR): Unemployed People/ Labour Force
