QUOTATIONS AND CAPTIONS

    • Good relations with our neighbours are essential for peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
    • At a time when certain forces are increasingly using history and culture as powerful instruments to pursue their political agenda, credible and concrete evidence on the antiquity of the country will naturally put to rest any claim based on baseless assumptions.
    • In the midst of marking 75 years of the Constitution of India, India needs to take a sober look at the right to personal liberty being a core constituent of an idea of justice.
    • Dissent is criminalised even while dissent is reinstated; this is the deep paradox of our times that courts must reflect on in the 75th year of the Constitution.
    • Preventive detention, arbitrary arrests, denial of fair trial through the impunity that is guaranteed statutorily in anti-terror laws, and democidal-domicidal violence enact ‘rituals of humiliation’ and impose indescribable wrongs on conscientious resisters in India today.
    • Within a broader framing of justice, the technicalities of the interpretation of a fundamental right were seen as inseparable from the centrality of personal liberty to constitutional ethics.
    • The disinvestment policy should be geared towards supporting key, well-performing PSUs, and improving managerial efficiency by divesting critical stake.
    • New Delhi needs to balance its relations with China and the growing partnership with the US so that Indian interests are best served.
    • The RBI’s adherence to the SC guidance is essential not only to restore public trust but also to fortify the financial system against vulnerabilities.
    • The international community has long recognised the urgent need to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and shift to renewable energy, and in recent years, many governments have pledged to reach net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions, albeit over extremely long timeframes.
    • Cooperative commodities exchange leverages technology, blockchain and India’s PACS network to empower farmers with fair pricing, sustainability and direct market access.
    • Blockchain will create a tamper-proof record of transactions, from production to storage and distribution, enhancing trust and accountability.
    • The presence of the Indonesian president at this year’s parade is a tribute to the enduring friendship between two nations that have weathered challenges and found common ground in their aspirations for peace, prosperity and global cooperation.
    • The idea of a rural area that we have is based on the 2011 Census, so a significant portion of the rural areas is basically urban or peri-urban in character.
    • Multidimensional have many indicators which may not be applicable to a household. When you don’t have a child, all those indicators related to a child are not relevant, so that household is not deprived of those things.
    • India’s National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) clearly defines the high-risk or vulnerable groups that are at risk of contracting TB and developing adverse outcomes.
    • Perhaps India too needs to restructure and redefine its many conventional frameworks, to combat TB.

ESSAY TOPIC

    • With great power comes an even greater responsibility

50-WORD TALK

    • World trade is in for a rocky ride as Trump kicks off tariff announcements. Mexico and Canada are first, but India and China shouldn’t rest easy. New Department of External Revenue means more tariffs will follow soon. India’s trade negotiators will need to balance standing firm while offering some concessions.
    • Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has raised valid questions about the whip system, which forces legislators to obey party diktats. He’s right: it curtails freedom of expression and subjects them to servility. This undermines the law-making process. Dhankhar must get stakeholders on board to carry his idea to its logical conclusion.
    • A Supreme Court judge’s remark during the hearing of burial rights for converted Christians in a Chhattisgarh village is uncalled for. Judges hold a position of immense responsibility and must avoid prejudicial comments that can stir emotions. They must speak through judgments and not voice personal opinions during court proceedings.
