QUOTATIONS AND CAPTIONS

  • The induction of members, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, is another sign that the counter-balancing arrangement of emerging economies that BRICS was envisaged as, cannot be mocked.
  • Despite all the activity, Standing Committees are not performing as they are mandated to.
  • As India jostles for a greater say on the global stage, platforms like Brics allow New Delhi to amplify its profile and work with other nations on key issues.
  • Policymakers need to engage with the concept and perception of vulnerability and move towards a national consensus on how it should be defined and managed.
  • The BRICs summit served as an important reminder for India and China that both countries need to find peaceful resolutions to their mutual concerns while finding new partnership opportunities.
  • With inflation returning near central banks’ targets, there is now room for pivoting monetary policy to a neutral stance and supporting economic activity.
  • Sustained surveillance, post declaration for trachoma and as India moves towards elimination for kala-azar, is key.
  • While celebration post such a well-fought public health campaign is necessary, complacence will erode all gains, considering the disease remains in the community, below the WHO-recommended radar.
  • The Constitution, as a living and transformative document, has repeatedly evolved its capacity to adapt to demanding circumstances.
  • It is only a reminder that ultimately, peace will have to be evolved through the Constitution without which any attempt to solve issues of diversity would remain illusory.
  • The Court’s judgment on constitutionality of Section 6A of the Citizenship Act speaks the language of statecraft but it does not fully account for the human rights of the marginalised.
  • As India continues to grapple with its citizenship laws, the Court must address the rights of the most vulnerable.
  • India is not a classic federation. Some continuing struggles and synergies inform the evolution of the idea of deliberative democracy in the country.
  • Social and economic diversity has contributed to differing economic and human development levels across the states.
  • investing in more resilient infrastructure, such as disaster-resistant housing and power systems, can significantly reduce damage and loss during natural disasters.
  • Engaging communities more deeply in disaster preparedness is essential – regular training and capacity-building programmes, with a particular focus on increasing women’s participation, will empower communities to be proactive and resilient.
  • The first step towards strengthening the multilateral system must, therefore, begin with removing the contradictions within the UN Charter on decision-making.
  • BRICS Summit is an opportunity to reinforce India’s pivotal role as it continues to advocate for multipolarity and global governance reforms.
  • The strengthening of the BRICS bloc and the deepening of the India-Russia partnership signify broader shifts in global dynamics toward a multipolar world.

ESSAY TOPIC

  • The objective of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives

50-WORD TALK

  • Situation normal, all fouled up—that’s the state of Delhi’s air pollution response. Criminal neglect of the public health crisis shows in the cyclical return of toxic air each passing year, despite promises by governments, interventions by courts and public’s appeals for help. The dirty politics is stinking up the air.
