QUOTATIONS AND CAPTIONS

  • The prevalence of misinformation or false information is a problem that undoubtedly requires to be tackled, but it cannot be an excuse to create a mechanism by which the government becomes a judge in its own cause or the sole arbiter of what information about itself is misleading.
  • While a majority of the experts agree that constitutional amendments are necessary, they contend that these changes would not be anti-democratic or anti-federal, nor would they undermine the Constitution’s basic structure or lead to a presidential form of government.
  • India, with its strategic location and economic influence, sees itself as a natural leader in advocating for an inclusive, prosperous Indo-Pacific.
  • India’s leadership within the Quad reflects its commitment to fostering cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, ensuring that it remains a region of stability and shared prosperity.
  • Electoral reforms should be accelerated by empowering the Election Commission to implement reforms with a one-year notice to Parliament.
  • It is time to bring sweeping reforms to India’s electoral system to ensure a more transparent, accountable, and stable political process.
  • Rather than looking at social media as an enemy to be vanquished, we should view it as a tool that requires careful handling.
  • In a society that nurtures patriarchal social norms the deeply ingrained gender biases and prejudices can only be removed through a change in the mindset.
  • Despite India’s efforts for cordial ties, rising anti-India sentiments within Bangladesh’s hardliner-dominated interim government pose a major challenge.
  • As technology continues to evolve, combating dark web crime requires ongoing adaptation and collaboration among stakeholders to safeguard digital security and public safety on a global scale.
  • The National Cyber Security Policy of 2013 is instrumental in designing strategies to counteract cyber threats, including those originating from the dark web.
  • Food security is key to India’s overall development agenda. Proactive measures are needed to deal with the longstanding problems of malnutrition and food insecurity
  • India is an important voice for the Global South and it succeeded in ensuring its G-20 presidency focused on war outcomes such as energy and food security that matter to the developing world rather than the war itself.
  • At a time when the government is dealing with internal conflicts including Manipur, revving up the economy through international engagement, regional turbulence and a host of other important issues, it could justifiably question the need to spend its resources on this conflict.
  • As a country of considerable consequence in the world, one that straddles the West and the east, the Global North and South, and as the only country that is member of both the Quad (Australia, India, Japan, United States) and BRICS, India is uniquely positioned.
  • History teaches us that men and nations only behave wisely once they have exhausted all other alternatives.
  • Subsuming multi-tier elections into simultaneous mode has the potential to reduce the importance of each tier, especially the Assembly and municipal levels, and is anti-federal.

ESSAY TOPIC

  • Smallness adores and adorns itself – greatness is humble.

50-WORD TALK

  • Donald Trump’s first debate with Kamala Harris is the kind of political faceoff a healthy democracy needs. It’s better than politicians talking at each other through tweets and rallies. This round goes to Harris. It’s fashionable nowadays to forecast America’s downfall, but Indian politics can learn a thing or two.
