WORLD SUMMIT ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT

The World Summit on Disaster Management (WSDM) 2025, held from November 28-30 in Dehradun, India, focused on “Strengthening International Cooperation for Building Resilient Communities”. The event convened global scientists, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss disaster risk reduction, climate change, and resilience, particularly in vulnerable Himalayan ecosystems.

    • Organizers: Jointly organized by the Government of Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand Council for Science & Technology, and Himalayan Academy of Science & Technology.
    • Key Themes: Focused on building climate resilience, enhancing early-warning systems, and fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships
    • Infrastructure Upgrades: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced significant improvements to Uttarakhand’s disaster preparedness, including 33 new observatories and 142 Automatic Weather Stations (AWS).
    • Focus Areas: Discussions included geological hazards, sustainable development, disaster preparedness, and honoring innovations in rescue operations.
    • 5E Framework: The summit emphasized a framework for action: Engage, Educate, Enable, Empower, and Excel.
