Ethics committee

About:

    • It plays a crucial role in maintaining ethical standards and integrity of Parliament.
    • Each of the two Houses of Parliament has an ethics committee:
      • Lok Sabha – 15 members.
      • Rajya Sabha – 10 members.
    • The members are appointed by the presiding officer of the house for a period of one year.

Role:

    • It oversees the moral and ethical conduct of members.
    • It examines cases of ethical misconduct and other instances of misbehavior by the members.
    • It handles complaints from lay citizens against lawmakers.
