QUOTATIONS AND CAPTIONS

    • Corruption is the enemy of development, and of good governance.
    • The time has come to admit that the PMMVY is a flop show. The central government seems to be more concerned with saving money than with helping pregnant women.
    • India’s import dependence for critical minerals is even more than for oil. The government is actively searching for assets overseas and signing supply agreements with friendly countries.
    • A just delimitation strategy will have to balance between the objectives of correcting the representative-population imbalance without being seen as penalising states for doing well in demographic management.
    • Prioritising transfers to local governments facing marginal developmental disparities is essential to bridge the existing gaps effectively.
    • With India and Japan now being part of new routes connecting Asia to Europe via the Middle East, Africa is being largely overlooked, which could weaken their partnerships with African countries.
    • As China seeks an international partner to enhance its influence on the global stage, India is in a prime position to seize this opportunity and bridge the leadership void in global climate governance.
    • India’s Northeast remains crucial to its Neighbourhood First and Act East policies. However, ongoing instability in Bangladesh and Myanmar continue to disrupt India’s connectivity projects.
    • Ensuring the stability and security of these connectivity initiatives is crucial for sustaining economic growth in the Northeast and advancing India’s Neighbourhood First and Act East policy objectives.
    • India’s National AI Mission draws from similar principles of openness and accessibility underpinning India’s successful Digital Public Infrastructure that is rapidly transforming its society and economy.
    • In the process of urban transformation, the role of state and local governments is important. Enhancing their financial and administrative capabilities will be useful in the achievement of the goal.
    • Loss and damage poses a critical challenge in the context of escalating climate change impacts. Addressing this issue requires not only efforts to avert and minimise harm but also a perspective rooted in redistributive climate justice.
    • Despite regulatory efforts, tobacco consumption in India remains a major health and economic challenge, thus requiring stronger policies, taxation, and public health initiatives.
    • AI will not just assist service-based industries, but also replace traditional workflows with automated alternatives.

ESSAY TOPIC

    • United we win, divided we perish

50-WORD TALK

    • School teachers across states are on the streets demanding job regularisation and higher wages. ThePrint report shows the distress runs deep. Mismanagement of teachers’ appointments and delayed redressal of grievances are hurting children’s education. This will only widen the learning gap. State governments cannot let this slide continue for long.
    • Shrill exchanges between Centre and Tamil Nadu government over NEP and delimitation are unwarranted. CM Stalin’s political grandstanding a year ahead of elections aside, his apprehensions and concerns are not unfounded. Bellicose responses by union ministers will be counter-productive. Centre must address them with sensitivity and a spirit of accommodation.
