QUOTATIONS AND CAPTIONS

    • A politician thinks about the next election, while the statesman thinks about the next generation.
    • To truly transform India into a research powerhouse, the focus must shift to strengthening foundational infrastructure, incentivising private innovation, and ensuring long-term, sustainable engagement from industry leaders.
    • India lacks a road map in the field of education that allows the promise of technology to be harnessed for those who need it the most.
    • As co-chair of the Paris meeting, India must leverage its position to advance the key AI priorities of the Global South.
    • As co-chair of the Paris meeting, India must leverage its position to advance the key AI priorities of the Global South. Doing so would position India as an ideal candidate to host the next AI Action Summit, which would ensure continued focus on the Global South perspective on AI.
    • The MPC’s decision to adopt a less restrictive policy clearly indicates that growth considerations now outweigh concerns over inflation.
    • There is an increasing trend of moral censure by the courts, which has a chilling effect on people with alternative life experiences, orientations and preferences.
    • Courts are tasked with establishing constitutional morality, not the personal morality of judges or even social morality. In the personal sphere, there is no one definition or standard of morality.
    • Society can’t exist without law and order and can’t advance except through the initiative of vigorous innovation.
    • To develop a scientific temper is a constitutional duty. We must challenge our fixed notions and way of life to respect other’s personal choices and individual autonomy. Judges must judge by constitutional morality and not personal morality.
    • It is embarrassing that India allowed the pollution problem to reach where it has.
    • The India-France partnership has the potential to lay the groundwork for an alternative global framework on adopting, encouraging, and regulating technology.
    • As middle powers with strong democratic traditions and significant technological capabilities, India and France are well-positioned to influence international standards for AI development and deployment.
    • With emerging technologies, evolving geopolitical alliances and the dominance of visual storytelling, the way messages are crafted and delivered is being redefined.
    • Addressing the misuse of IPR, ensuring fair agricultural policies, and tackling trade distortions caused by superpower conflicts are necessary steps to prevent the WTO from becoming irrelevant.
    • In the current geopolitics where India finds itself in a good place with friends on various sides, adding a major power in the region and neighbourhood would be a good idea.
    • While the AUKUS alliance is a direct threat, the QUAD with Indian membership is perceived by China as a hostile initiative.
    • Conflict management is the foundation for confidence-building and can develop with steady de-escalation and broadening of mutuality as the basis of trust.
    • The population growth rate, the bank credit to GSDP ratio, and the shares of agriculture and industry in GSDP contribute to the differences in steady states across states.

ESSAY TOPIC

    • Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.

50-WORD TALK

    • The recently notified Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code and the rules made to implement it are yet another unwarranted attack on the dignity and privacy of individuals. The Uttarakhand UCC seems less about ensuring uniformity and more about controlling the choices and bodies of young people. This is a clear violation of the constitutional guarantees of privacy and dignity of the individual.
