INTRODUCTION: Environmental  governance deals with how governance can promote sustainable development. So, when government promotes sustainable development the administration needs to protect the environment.Administration functions in such a fashion that it results into green development or sustainable development, protection and preservation of environment.

BODY:Good Governance introduces a value laden/normative approach to the governance which focuses on the making government pro‐active and pro‐people.

Relationship between good governance and environmental governance:

When GG emerged in 1989, 1992 and 1997, there was also the context of environment at the global platform. World Earth Summit took place in 1992, IPCC was established in 1988 and so on. Therefore, environmental concerns also gave rise to the GG. Good governance further promoted the idea of environmental governance  or sustainable development.

The link has been established by United Nations under UN Social and Economic Affairs (UNSEA). It has established a link between how good governance is needed for achieving the Sustainable Development.

Good governance promotes accountability, transparency, efficiency and rule of law at all levels and allows efficient management of human, natural, economic and  financial resources  for  equitable  and  sustainable  development,  guaranteeing  civil society participation in decision‐making processes. Good governance and  environmental governance are two concepts  intimately tied together.

The features of GG force the government to change the process of governance which helps in promotion of Sustainable Development because SD also has goals related to health, education and preservation of environment.

The United Nations document “Transforming our World: The 2030 Agenda for  Sustainable Development” contains 17 goals and 169 targets to be achieved by  2030. This agenda is built over the Millennium Development Goals which were  adopted  in 2000 and were to be  achieved by 2015.

CONCLUSION: Hence, there should be participative approach in governance. So, GG helps in promotion of environmental governance while concerns for environmental governance promoted GG. EG and GG can be regarded as the two sides of same coin.
