QUOTATIONS AND CAPTIONS

  • Humanness is acting in a moment of compassion.
  • Business ethics is the code of good conduct that a business adheres to in its daily dealings both with other businesses and with customers.
  • The Prime Ministers of India and Nepal, who were in power when bilateral ties collapsed, must rebuild trust as they are back in power once again.
  • More quality jobs will reduce the reliance on populist schemes that are resulting in severe fiscal stress.
  • The dynamic nature of poverty suggests that identifying poor households and determining whether to provide them with social protection only once in a decade may miss out on those who fall into poverty in the intervening time, while continuing to support those who no longer need social protection.
  • NATO is at a crossroads. While it may have found an immediate purpose in responding to Russia, its challenges extend beyond Moscow.
  • India’s official population data is outdated, with the 2021 Census on hold. UN report estimates 2024 population at 1.45 billion, highlighting demographic challenges and opportunities.
  • The remission of duties on exported products scheme is a key initiative aimed at enhancing competitiveness of our products in international markets.
  • Greater external engagement through trade and technology partnerships, leveraging technology for economic expansion and strategic investments in green tech would position India as a global leader of innovation and sustainable growth.
  • Repeated confrontations between the Delhi L-G and the Chief Minister have severely impacted governance in the Capital in recent years. The Centre would do well to avoid implementing such a disruptive model in J&K.
  • It is imperative for India’s security planners to formulate a national strategy encompassing politico-diplomatic-economic measures to make it cost-prohibitive for Islamabad to continue with the misadventure.
  • The persistent flooding in Indian cities during the monsoon season raises critical questions about urban planning and governance.
  • Fragmented governance and lack of coordination between various municipal agencies hinder effective water management. Policies and plans are often implemented in a piecemeal manner, without addressing the root causes of flooding.
  • India needs to strengthen its economic health with sustainable fiscal policies for long-term stability; state guarantees only put it in a perilous situation.
  • PM Modi visit to Russia underscored India’s strategic balancing act between global powers while prioritising its own economic and security needs.

ESSAY TOPIC

  • Perseverance is more prevailing than violence.

50-WORD TALK

  • Steep US tariff increases on China, and ally UK hauling in Beijing’s ambassador over spying charges underline hardening of their policy. This emerging trade war could inevitably grow into a new Cold War. There are obvious lessons for India, at the receiving end of Chinese trade domination and military bullying.
  • India has signed a 10-year contract to manage Iran’s Chabahar port in a boost to the country’s energy security. Described by Jaishankar as a “crucial contract” that would lead to bigger investment in the port, the move is also about India standing up for its own interests despite western pressures.
