QUOTATIONS AND CAPTIONS

  • Every worthwhile accomplishment has its stages of drudgery and triumph: a beginning, a struggle and a victory.
  • Floods do not merely show the fury of nature; they are also often brought about by climate change-induced rainfall. This especially impacts mountainous regions such as the Himalayas.
  • Climate change adaptation is a cross-sectoral issue. It involves laws relating to land use, preservation of water bodies, coastal regulations, and environmental impact assessment.
  • By assigning a day for teachers and another one for children, India seems to have forgotten that the two form a bond; no worthwhile education can take place when this bond breaks.
  • The groundwater depletion implications of growing sugar cane are well known, but the food security implications of groundwater depletion and of using foodgrains for ethanol production are harder to imagine because India is currently a surplus food producer.
  • Achieving true sustainability is complex, especially with respect to biofuels. Therefore, any strategy should be carefully examined in the context of the larger ecosystem to avoid unintended negative consequences.
  • It is their insecurity and bad faith that underlies the thought control that is sought to be introduced via corporate control of the media, and by legislative subterfuge.
  • The most important lessons from India’s experience with sedition law is that there needs to be clear demarcation between the state and the government.
  • The deepening relationship between India and Saudi Arabia has potential to change the dynamic of the subcontinent and West Asia.
  • Reform is the need of the hour for the multilateral financing system and this has been recognised for quite some time. The G20 has formulated concrete recommendations for the way forward based on its experts’ report.
  • India has nourished strategic autonomy right from Independence and steadily sought to build up its strategic capability, even while drawing on all available arms and weapons technology on offer from different sides.
  • The G20 has raised the voice of South Asian nations but their success on world stage would depend upon their level of engagement with India and the world.
  • The fusion of intelligent digital technologies into manufacturing and industrial processes, known as Industry 4.0, presents an exciting opportunity for a new industrial revolution.
  • India has the ambition to increase manufacturing contribution in GDP up to 25% by 2025, which is only possible after intelligent digital technologies inclusion into manufacturing and industrial processes.
  • The banking system primarily supports food production by granting loans and credit facilities. Farmers need significant capital for modern equipment, high-quality seeds, and advanced farming techniques.

ESSAY TOPIC

  • The heaviest penalty for declining to rule is to be ruled by someone inferior.

50-WORD TALK

  • The delivery of the first C295 aircraft, manufactured by a partnership between Airbus and Tata Advanced Systems, to the Indian Air Force is a major milestone for the country. The acquisition marks the beginning of a new era as it’s the first time an Indian private company will manufacture planes.
  • Supreme Court order on a policy for law enforcement agencies to brief media on ongoing criminal investigations was much needed. There is often irresponsible and breathless coverage of such probes. The police and other agencies are to blame for selective leaks and sharing sensitive information that can influence public opinion.
  • RBI’s order saying banks must hand over all loan-related assets within 30 days of payback or settlement will give relief to lakhs currently at the mercy of bank bureaucracy. Earlier, RBI also limited banks’ ability to charge penal interest. Such strictness with banks over their treatment of borrowers is timely.
